Strain and Sex Differences of Cell Proliferation and Apoptosis Index on Diethylnitrosamine-induced Hepatocarcinogenesis in Mice

Abstract

|
To exanime the strain and sex differences between the cell proliferation and apoptosis index during hepatocarcinognesis, we applied three strains of mice (C3H, BALB/c and ICR). The mice were divided according to the sex, strain and age. The mice were given twice i.p. injection(50㎎/㎏) of diethylnitrosamine. The mice were sacrificed at 2, 4, 12 and 24 weeks after administration of twice dose of the DEN, and histopathological studies of liver cells were evaluated using immunohistochemistry technique. The PCNA Index was higher in C3H mice than that of BALB/c or ICR mice. The AgNOR Index or Apotag Index shows same tendency. The results suggest that difference of sensitivity to hepatocarcinogenesis may depends on the strain and sees differences of proliferation and apoptosis of hepatocytes.
